Discontinuing Cenex® Maxtron® MT SAE 50 Manual Transmission Fluid

CHS Lubricants will be sunsetting the Cenex® Maxtron® MT SAE 50 product over the coming months and positioning the Maxtron MT SAE 40 product for use in its place. An official discontinuation date will be announced this summer. The several month transition is intended to give our customers time to educate and transition users to SAE 40.

The decision to discontinue SAE 50 is due to several factors.

  • SAE 40 has become the preferred viscosity due to the fuel economy it offers.
  • SAE 40 has become the preferred viscosity of the equipment manufacturer and carries approval for Eaton PS-386 and PS-164 rev 7.
  • SAE 40 is backward compatible for the SAE 50 product.
  • SAE 50 additives are seeing pricing pressures driving preference for SAE 40.

Moving to Maxtron MT SAE 40 is expected to be a smooth transition as the product serves and exceeds the needs for those who are using Maxtron MT SAE 50. Please work with your customers to educate them on the benefits of SAE 40 and let them know of this coming product shift.
